Chevrolet Colorado

Chevy Colorado is a result of collaboration between GM and Isuzu. Chevy Colorado and Isuzu Dmax are therefore identical inside, only their outward appearance differs.

Chevrolet has been building trucks for the past 100 years and since 1911 we have sold a lot of Chevy trucks. Chevy trucks were always known for their durability and reliability but quality and value for money were not high on the list not until Japanese manufacturers offered high quality and low prices with reliability and durability that American manufacturers woke up and smelled the coffee.

These trucks have their distinctive American styling thanks to its GM heritage and Japanese quality and reliability thanks to its Isuzu heritage. A few years ago General Motors teamed together with Isuzu Corporation to jointly develop pick up trucks, everyone knew that they will create world's best diesel vehicle. Isuzu is the master of diesel engine and  has ruled the roost for more than a decade. The first truck developed under this program was the D-Max and it became an overnight sensation in Thailand and became Thailand's best selling pickup until Toyota Hilux Vigo came from nowhere to dominate the segment and knocked Isuzu from its number one position. Isuzu DMax was repackaged as  Chevrolet Colorado for the US and Thailand market.

2007 versions of Isuzu DMax and Chevy Colorado respond to the challenges posed by Toyota Hilux Vigo, Mitsubishi L200 Triton and now Nissan Navara.

With its distinctive rugged American styling there’s no better theme for this new Chevy truck than “Colorado … Like a Rock”. Intro to Colorado

Chevrolet S-series trucks redefined the small-truck segment by grafting the handling and performance characteristics of a midsize sedan (MacPherson IFS, V-6 power) onto a compact pickup platform.   Colorado is built on the foundation of this S-series but larger than the S-10 truck that it replaces.

Colorado features all-new Isuzu engines, additional class-exclusive features and a tough new look that makes it instantly recognizable as a Chevrolet pickup. Built on a stout ladder frame chassis, the Colorado offers three body styles, two- and four-wheel drive and a choice of two new Vortec inline engines. Derived directly from the 4.2-liter straight six found in the TrailBlazer SUV, the Colorado's all-aluminum four- and five-cylinder power plants are the most technologically advanced engines ever offered in a compact Chevrolet truck. Both engines use dual-overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and electronic throttle control to deliver a broad range of peak torque that extends from 1,200 to 5,600 rpm on the standard 2.8-liter four-cylinder, and from 1,400 to 5,200 rpm on the optional 3.5-liter five-cylinder. Both engines offer a choice of a four-speed automatic or a new five-speed manual.

The suspension consists of a solid rear axle with leaf springs and an independent coil spring front suspension. An off-road package swaps out the coil springs for torsion bars, while a sport package adds an anti-sway bar in back.

Off-road enthusiasts will also appreciate the Colorado's dual-speed push-button transfer case as well as the optional locking rear differential. Since the majority of compact truck buyers purchase their vehicles for personal use, the Colorado was given a more refined and feature-laden cabin than the previous S-10. The overall design is simple, with rotary dials for the climate control system and a large radio faceplate for easy control of the XM Satellite Radio-compatible audio system.

Extended cab models feature reverse-opening rear doors on both sides for easier access to the backseats, while the large crew cab models offer a 60/40-split folding rear seat that can seat three adults, according to Chevrolet. Regardless of whether the cabs are comfortable or not, segment-first side curtain airbags are available that provide head protection in the event of a side impact or rollover accident. Standard antilock brakes and optional traction control on 2WD models further contribute to the Colorado's complement of safety features. All things considered, the Colorado offers all the necessary ingredients to satisfy the majority of compact truck buyers. Its range of engines provides both efficiency and power, and with three body styles to choose from in both two- and four-wheel drive, finding a perfect fit shouldn't be too difficult.

Colorado has intelligent power plants that perform the way you need them to, including an available Vortec 3500 I-5 engine that generates the horsepower of a V6 with the fuel efficiency of a four-cylinder.
